Status of Uganda’s oil and gas sector

One of the main challenges facing Uganda’s plan to produce oil by 2020 is land acquisition according to the government.
“Compensating affected persons is becoming an expensive process,” an update on the status of the oil and gas sector by the minister for energy and mineral development Irene Muloni states.

Acquiring land for key requirements like Upstream Central Processing Facilities, oil refinery, refined products pipeline and a crude export pipeline is being delayed by valuation of community land, speculators and valuation rates.
