Makerere University Law Professor Sylvia Tamale has made a case for a review of Uganda’s laws on morality, saying they discriminate against women.
She made the remarks during her inaugural professorial lecture at Makerere University on Friday, 28 October 2016.
“The time is overdue for Uganda to overhaul these outdated sexist penal laws,” she said at the event attended by law students, scholars, civil society actors and members of the public.
Prof. Tamale, a renown feminist, is the first female don to head the law faculty at Makerere University, and the first female lecturer to give a professorial inaugural lecture at the institution.
