The Ugandan government has proposed an amendment to the Constitution to facilitate compulsory and faster land acquisition for public infrastructure in cases where the land owner disagrees with compensation terms.

The government argues that it has had challenges in acquiring land required for public infrastructures such as roads, electrification, railway lines and social infrastructure projects including facilitating health care and schools among others.
